The screws that are used to attach the metal roofing are self drilling screws. You will have to paint the roof but is cheaper than buying new roofing. If you asked two installers whether they pre drill metal roofing sheets prior to installation you would likely get two completely different answers. Corrugated roofing sheets should be installed into the corrugated sheets crown using a 65mm tek screw with baz washer.

These include steel aluminum tin copper and zinc. Pull and re nail them. The general advice for fixing is 4 5 screws across the sheets purlin we advise using 1 screw on the overlap of the next sheet. 1 look for loose nails.

If you find any remove rust with a wire brush and or steel wool. If fixing screws are left in the valleys your roof will leak in hundreds of places. What was previously a valley in the corrugations will now be a ridge and the nail hole will be in the correct place. The exact type of fixings required will depend on the roofing sheet and purlin type either timber light steel or heavy steel however we recommend self drilling tek type screws with a 5 16th hex head for optimum performance. This means that the screw will drill its own hole through the metal roofing panel and into the metal or wood substrate. Then prime the surface with a metal primer and follow up with a top coat to match the color of the roof. Most metal roof panels are made from sheet metal that has been coated with a protective surface.

Over time this coating can wear away leaving the metal panels to oxidize. Some of these materials are subject to oxidation.
