To clean the sensor turn off power to the furnace at the breaker box.
Make sure that all heating is turned off and cannot travel into the furnace.
First find the flame sensor inside your furnace.
Then if possible remove the sensor from the furnace.
In these types of units a pilot sensor is no longer employed and the main flame is the only one recorded with the bi metallic sensor.
If the flame sensor is not functioning as designed it will prevent the gas furnace from firing.
Typically the flame sensor comes in the form of a rod that can be found near the back of the furnace right in the path of the burner.
However if the furnace flame sensor does not detect the presence of a flame within 10 seconds of the gas valve opening it will shut the furnace down.
